New MLK Hawaii Doc to be Previewed on Martin Luther King Day

In September 1959, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., visited Hawaii – shortly after it formally became the 50th state in the Union, and spoke to its leaders. That little-known trip is the subject of a planned documentary and a Facebook Live discussion with its filmmakers on Monday, Martin Luther King Day. Urban Exposure Short Films Premiere Online Tonight, Oct. 15

Two short films made by Quad-Cities youth will be shown online tonight at 6:30 p.m., through the Urban Exposure Independent Film Program. Jonathan Burnett, founder and creative director for the program, completed his sixth year programming and premiering short films by young adults. However, this year things were a little different. Because of the pandemic, Urban Exposure moved everything to the video conferencing platform, ZOOM. “Sons & Daughters of Thunder” is continuing to make noise throughout the Iowa Film Awards scene! The movie, created by Kelly and Tammy Rundle, won a Critic’s Choice Award at the 2020 Iowa Independent Film Festival tonight. Early yesterday, the duo of area filmmakers found out their feature, “Sons and Daughters of Thunder,” was an official selection of the 2020 Iowa Independent Film Festival. Eight months after its stirring premiere at the Putnam Museum Giant Screen Theater in Davenport, “A Bridge Too Far From Hero Street” – a new film that tells the true story of one local soldier’s involvement in the largest air assault in history – will be shown in two free online screenings over the July 4th weekend.
