November 3rd, 2023
Quad-Cities' Einstein's Sister Trek To Abbey Road For New 'Exit Strategies'

The Quad-Cities’ Lennon and McCartney, Kerry Tucker and Bill Douglas of Einstein’s Sister, have more than expert pop songcraft in common with the Beatles on their latest EP, “Exit Strategies” — the record was mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Miles Showell, who has mastered records by The Beatles, The Who, Queen, and others, is one of the sonic luminaries on the new album; the other being Nick Davis, who mixed it, and has worked with XTC, Genesis, Bjork and others. “It was unbelievably surreal,” Tucker said of being at Abbey Road. “We were in the middle of working on something... Read More

Bettendorf's Molly Conrad Celebrating New Baby And New Album, 'Light Of The Dark'

Like a lot of us, Molly Conrad has learned a lot about light and darkness during the Covid pandemic. The 29-year-old singer/songwriter and Bettendorf native — currently living in Buffalo, N.Y. – has had a pretty productive pandemic, producing a new boy with her husband, and a new album, “Light of the Dark.” One took nine months to make, and the other just three days. “I really love sad songs,” Conrad said recently, noting she’d written the new music over the past couple years. “I love melancholic truth with glimmers of hope sprinkled about, and tried to capture the nuance of... Read More

VanHyfte’s Magical Creative World Lives On After His Passing

VanHyfte's Magical Creative World Lives On After His Passing

From the time I first saw Tim VanHyfte’s artwork, not long after I moved to the Quad-Cities in the mid-’90s, I was absolutely enthralled. VanHyfte had a beautiful, intricate, original and wonderful style that was distinctly his own. Most of Tim’s subjects were women, and his artwork presented them as beautiful mysteries, fantastic worlds and journeys to be taken through merely the look in their eyes, the way they held themselves, the environments in which they were presented. It was reminiscent of a Gen X version of Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World” —... Read More

QC Scene was on the scene yesterday for Record Store Day at Moline’s CoOp Records, to celebrate the release of Einstein’s Sister’s first record in almost two decades. Given that we’re living in the time of covid, and social distancing, the pictures of crowds weren’t anywhere near as packed as they were for Einstein’s last record release, three years ago, performing to celebrate the reissue of their excellent album “Learning Curves” on vinyl. So, we’ve decided to give you two pictorials — one from yesterday’s record release, and one... Read More
