Edison Junior High Chess Team Competes At Illinois Tournament

Edison’s Chess Team competed in the IESA State Chess Tournament this past weekend! They competed in 8 matches each on Friday and Saturday. Some of these students had never played Chess until this year when they joined the Chess Club – a part of the 21st CCLC Lights On For Learning Programs at Edison. They competed against 53 schools and came in the top half at 22!! Congratulations to Connor Schultz, Ywa Pweh, Brandi Lee, Mykal Holliday, Chris Pedroza, Colby Howser, Adonius Harmon, Anthony Moa, Joseph Tavernier, Ryan Hearn and Bri Schrempf. Shoutout to Rock Island’s Edison Junior High wrestling team who competed in regionals this weekend! Rock Island Jr. High Schools Place 1st and Dominate Top 10 at Math Competition

Both RIMSD junior high schools are sending students to the State MathCounts Tournament in March. Edison Junior High School’s team, coached by Tim Carroll placed 1st overall at the MathCounts Chapter competition held at Black Hawk College. Edison also had the number one individual score! The following Edison Jr. High students will move on to the State competition.
