How many bees are in a hive? What does it take to be queen?  Which bees sting? Buzz over to the Fairmount St. Library Children’s Garden on Monday, June 28th at 6:30 pm and find out from a local beekeeper and a swarm of her very important pollinator friends. Teen Audiobook Club Starts This Week At Davenport Public Library

Teens (11-19) are invited to join Miss Amber on Tuesdays beginning June 22nd at 2:00 pm in the Fairmount Street Library’s Garden for a new teen audiobook club! This summer we will be listening together to one of 2020’s best-selling and award-winning books, Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism and You written by Jason Reynolds & Ibram X. Kendi and read by Jason Reynolds. As a group, we will listen to portions of the audiobook and work on quiet projects in the garden including gardening, crafting, and meditating. Kick off Summer Reading 2021: Reading Colors Your World by helping us color our world outside the library! We’ll bring the chalk; you bring the creativity! Sign up for a 1-hour time slot on Saturday, June 19th between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm at either our Eastern Ave. or Fairmount St. branches to decorate your assigned parking spot with a recreation of a book cover, an inspirational quote, or a silly sketch. Juneteenth – short for “June Nineteenth” – marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were told by Union troops that they were free. Since then, the date has become a national celebration of emancipation.
