We are sending all the good luck to the Davenport Community School District Girls’ Wrestling team at the State Competition this Thursday and Friday, and to the Boys’ Swimming teams at Central and West at the State qualifying meet on Saturday! Seventh-grade Honors ELA students in Davenport Community School District had the privilege of hearing from a guest speaker, Judy Thompson, in class recently. Mrs. Thompson is a former pro tennis player from Davenport who also helped play a role in the passing of Title IX, a law allowing women equal rights in sports, education and other activities. She spoke about her life- her successes, challenges, and her impact on women’s sports. Davenport Schools Students Participate In Junior Achievement BizTown

In November, all Davenport Schools fifth-grade students participated in Junior Achievement BizTown at JA World. JA BizTown combines several weeks of in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to interview for the job they want to do for the town, then go on-site to run the town by operating banks, managing restaurants, writing checks, and voting for mayor. Davenport West High Diamond Dancers Score Big At Iowa State Dance Championships

The Davenport West High School Diamond Dancers achieved great success at the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association (ISDTA) State Dance Team Championships last Friday. The team received a Distinguished Academic Award (3.5-4.0 Team GPA), 7th place in Class IV Lyrical, 6th place in Class XIV Pom, and 4th place in Class III Kick. Junior Addison Aleksiejczyk also placed 2nd in Class X Solos, which is the highest soloist placing in school history! The event was held at the historic Adler Theatre, featuring 571 students from Davenport Central High School, Davenport North High School, and Davenport West High School’s music departments.
