Quad-Cities Band Conductor Wins Prestigious National Award

A prestigious national arts award is back under the baton of a Quad-Cities conductor. Nicolas Propes of LeClaire, who leads the Big River Brass Band, was announced this week as winner of the American Prize in conducting band/wind ensemble, community/schools division for 2019-20. “I was very honored to be selected,” Propes, a 40-year-old native of Ames, Iowa, said Friday. He applied last summer with a resume and videos of him leading the band. Dance the Night Away with Music on the Mississippi

Summer evenings may be nearing the end for the year, but that doesn’t mean the end of outdoor live music in the Quad Cities! Join the Moline Parks and Recreation Department for ‘Music on the Mississippi’, beginning this Monday Sep 9 at 6 p.m. and continuing every Monday throughout September. A temporary location change for this event has been made for 2019 to Riverside Park’s East Shelter (closest to the playground). Bring the whole family out for live music and dancing! Celebrate Flag Day at the Moline Memorial Park Cemetery this week! National Flag Day is on Thursday Jun 14. The Moline Memorial Park Cemetery (5001 34th Avenue Moline) will be celebrating from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., and you’re invited!
