Although there are some excellent minor league sports teams in the Quad Cities, many of you will root for Chicago teams when it comes to major league pro sports. After a fallow period, there seems to be a renewed sense of optimism across the city’s sports community, largely thanks to the performance of the Bears last season.

Many of the top sports betting sites have reevaluated their positions on the chances of a team from the Windy City claiming one of major league sports’ top prizes soon. But is it just the Chicago Bears we should be keeping an eye on?

Sports fans in the Quad Cities follow a bunch of different disciplines, so we thought now would be a good time to take a look at the chances for all of the men’s pro teams in Chicago. Can we really get excited about a victory parade in the year ahead?

Super Bowl Dreams

After four years of zero postseason action and no winning seasons since 2018, the Bears stormed back into the Super Bowl conversation in the season just gone. Taking up the surprise team mantle from divisional rivals Detroit, Chicago upset the odds and claimed the NFC North title before the Rams broke hearts in an overtime classic.

There is a lot of hope for the new season starting in the Fall, however. There has been significant improvement on both sides of the ball, and Caleb Williams is beginning to look like the quarterback that the fans had hoped he would be when he was drafted. The Bears might not be the favorite to win a Super Bowl quite yet, but anything less than making the playoffs again would be a huge disappointment.

World Series a Way Off

With spring training now underway, baseball fans are beginning to get very excited about opening day and the start of the new Major League Baseball season. But can Cubs and White Sox fans be particularly confident of success? With fewer teams making it through to the postseason than in other sports, even making the playoffs is an achievement.

The Cubs flew the flag for Chicago last year, and it seems likely that the story will be much the same in 2026. There is renewed hope of competing with the Brewers in the division, and then the potential for going deep into the playoffs, thanks to the money spent on recruiting players at Wrigley Field. There is also light at the end of the tunnel for the White Sox. It is still a long way back for a young roster that needs to add a lot in the bullpen, however. There might not be a World Series or a pennant won in Chicago this year, but things should be getting better on both sides of the city.

Misery on Ice Continues

Now for a league that is currently ongoing. Unfortunately, there is no good news for long-suffering Blackhawks fans, who are set to experience a sixth straight year of zero postseason action. After the highs of the Winter Olympics, hockey fans will soon be watching other sports until the 2026-27 season gets underway.

Things might have been different if Connor Bedard had not gotten injured in December. He might have been able to propel Chicago into the long-shot level of playoff teams. Now, the Hawks will be seeing out the rest of the campaign planning for next year and hoping that some kind of rebuild will change the fortunes of a team that hasn’t won a championship for over 10 years now.

Hoop Dreams

An 11-game losing streak and no wins at all during February changed the mood at the United Center. Where there was faint hope of making the play-in round, attention has now shifted to the lottery odds for the NBA Draft. There has been just two playoff series in the last ten years, and that tally will not be changing in 2026.

Although OKC is still tipped for another year of success, and the West has tended to provide the best teams in the last few years, the Eastern Conference has beefed up and is now becoming more competitive. Worryingly, the Bulls have been left behind a little in that regard, and will now be planning who to recruit ahead of last year. This is a team with a lot of history, but another championship is not on the cards anytime soon.

World Cup Fever

Chicago famously decided to drop out of the bidding race to become a host city for this summer’s big event, but all soccer fans in the area will still be eagerly anticipating the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in June. To help get everyone in the mood, Major League Soccer has just kicked off, and Chicago Fire fans can look forward to the season, 20 years after they last had something to celebrate.

When the Fire won that 2006 U.S. Open Cup, it was one of the biggest teams in Major League Soccer, but good times have been rarer in the years since. A championship might still be out of the question, but the potential of Robert Lewandowski joining after the summer has everyone very excited. The Polish striker would make a huge splash in MLS, just as Lionel Messi did in Miami, and the odds on a 2027 MLS Cup triumph for Chicago would be slashed.
