Davenport North YMCA to Move to Kimberly Road

After 25-plus years next to Davenport North High School, the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley will move this summer to a new facility at 1010 E. Kimberly Road in Davenport.

The final day of the Y’s current location at 624 W. 53rd St. will be Friday, June 19, and the new facility will open Monday, July 6, according to a YMCA release. It will host a Community Open House Saturday, July 11.

“The North YMCA has made a meaningful impact on our community for decades, and we are proud of that history,” said Josh Whitson, CEO of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley. “At the same time, we know our work continues, and this new location gives us the opportunity to reach more people and further advance the health and wellness of our community.”

For more than 25 years, the North YMCA has been a cornerstone of youth development, healthy living, and community connection, the Y said. This legacy was made possible through the vision and leadership of Frank Klipsch III, Richard Bittner, the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley Board, and the Davenport School Board led by Patt Zamora.

The YMCA next to Davenport North High, at 624 W. 53rd St., has been a partnership with the high school for over 25 years.

“The YMCA extends its sincere appreciation to the Davenport Community School District for a valued 25-year partnership, whose collaboration helped establish a Y that has positively impacted thousands of youth and families across the region,” the release from the nonprofit said.

Davenport North High is undergoing a $30-million renovation and expansion. The YMCA will continue to operate its facility next to Davenport West High on Locust Street.

The new Davenport North Y will be smaller than the current 50,000-square-foot Y at North High, mainly because it will not have a pool, Y spokesman Taylor Bley said Friday. But it will still have full strength and exercise equipment, group exercise area and locker rooms, he noted.

The existing vacant space at the Kimberly Road strip mall (which includes Yinz Binz, Harbor Freight and Midwest Grilling Supplies) will be leased and renovated by the Y, but no public fundraising campaign will be required and the Y is not disclosing the renovation costs, Bley said.

Throughout its history, the North YMCA has served as a vital community hub. With more than 7,000 members annually, including approximately 2,000 youth, the Y has provided life-changing programs and support, the group release said.

Over the years, more than 1,200 at-risk youth have participated in outreach programs, achieving improved academic outcomes and increased graduation rates. The YMCA has also invested millions of dollars in scholarships to ensure that all individuals and families, regardless of financial circumstance, have access to programs that support their health and well-being.

The new North YMCA will place a strong emphasis on holistic health and recovery, offering innovative wellness amenities designed to improve physical recovery, reduce stress, and support overall well-being, including:

  • Red Light Therapy & Infrared Heat (RedZone): Combines infrared heat and red-light technology to support muscle recovery, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. This integrated approach helps members enhance recovery, reduce fatigue, and support overall physical performance.
  • HydroMassage: A fully customizable, full-body heated massage experience designed to relieve muscle soreness, reduce tension, and support recovery. Members can remain fully clothed while targeting specific muscle groups, making it an accessible and convenient option for post-workout recovery and ongoing wellness.
  • Polar Wave Cold Therapy Chair: Provides the benefits of a full-body cold plunge in a dry, comfortable environment, helping reduce inflammation, accelerate muscle recovery, and improve overall resilience through short, effective sessions.

These wellness offerings are included as part of a YMCA membership, reinforcing the Y’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality health and wellness solutions for the entire community.

The facility will also expand and strengthen programs designed to serve individuals across all stages of life:

  • LIVESTRONG at the YMCA: A 12-week, evidence-based program designed to help cancer survivors reclaim their strength—physically, emotionally, and socially following treatment. The program is provided completely free to participants and includes a complimentary three-month membership for their families, allowing them to heal and grow together.

In 2025 alone:

○ 36 survivors served (21 new participants)

○ 95% increased physical activity

○ 100% reported improved quality of life

○ 90% reduction in fatigue

○ 100% improvement in emotional and social health

○ Participants also experienced meaningful physical gains, including increased walking distance and strength improvements. These outcomes represent more than data. They reflect individuals regaining independence, confidence, and hope.

○ Currently offered three times per year at only two locations, demand for the LIVESTRONG program continues to exceed capacity, and the new North YMCA location will play a critical role in expanding access to this life-changing program.

  • SilverSneakers Program – Promoting health, wellness, and connection for older adults
  • Delay the Disease Program – Providing specialized fitness and support for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease
  • EGYM Smart Fitness System – A personalized, full-body strength training system that guides members through safe, effective workouts in as little as 20 minutes. Using smart technology, EGYM automatically adjusts to each individual, tracks progress, and adapts workouts over time—helping members build strength, improve mobility, and return to a healthy lifestyle with confidence.

The YMCA is committed to ensuring that everyone in the community has access to these programs and services. Financial assistance is made possible through the generous support of donors in our community through the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation.

The relocated Davenport North Y at 1010 E. Kimberly Rd. will open on July 6, 2026.

Last year alone, donor support helped the YMCA:

  • Provide over $2.1 million in financial assistance to individuals and families
  • Serve over 90,000 community members across the region
  • Ensure that 22% of members could access YMCA programs through financial assistance
  • Deliver life-changing programs such as water safety education for hundreds of children and mentorship opportunities for local youth Income-based membership assistance is available through a sliding fee scale, with joining fees waived for those who qualify. This commitment ensures that every individual and family has the opportunity to improve their health, connect with others, and thrive.

Since 1858, the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley has remained dedicated to strengthening communities through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The new North YMCA location represents both a continuation of that mission and a forward-looking investment in the future health and well-being of the community.

“We are deeply grateful for the generations of members, families, and supporters who have shaped the North YMCA,” Whitson added. “We are excited to carry that legacy forward and expand our impact for years to come.”
