The Quad Cities’ Ultimate Pickup Game is once again upon us! That’s right, it’s time for the 10th Annual Hoopin’ for the House! Hoopin’ for the House is a fundraiser brought to you by Friendly House of Davenport. It is a twelve-hour marathon basketball game for adults. This year’s event will start at 7pm Friday April 7 and go through 7am on Saturday April 8. Each game will last forty minutes, with a five-minute warmup beforehand. With warmer weather comes faster cars. That’s right, race season is here! The Davenport Speedway (2815 W Locust Street Davenport) will be kicking off their 2017 season this weekend! On Friday, April 7 the season starts with the REBEL 5K event. Pits will open at 3pm. The Grandstand opens at 4:30 and Hot Laps starts at 5:30. The races will begin at 6pm. Tickets are $21 for adults, $18 for students and seniors, and children 12 and under are free. The cost for a pit pass is $35. Davenport and Meridian entered the nightcap session of day 3 at the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series both searching for their first win. Both teams committed costly errors, but Meridian would earn the win 5-4 on a walk off single by Layton Jenkins. Pearl City jumped out early and cruised to a five inning 11-0 win over Davenport. Things were all Pearl City’s way in the first. Jayton Pang started with a double, Kelena Sauer then singled. Both teams traded blows down the stretch until a 5 run 5th inning by Sarasota put the contest out of reach.
