BREAKING NEWS: Moline Ending Mask Mandate Monday

BREAKING NEWS: Beginning Monday, February 28, masks will no longer be required in Moline City Hall or any other City of Moline public buildings. In addition, all public meetings will be conducted in person with full public attendance allowed. The decision corresponds with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s recscinding the state mask mandate on the same date. On Friday, Feb. 24, the Rock Island County Health Department reported that the COVID-19 case positivity rate in the county had fallen to 4.28%. Visitors to Moline City Hall or other public buildings may continue to wear masks if they choose.  Read More

In addition, ISA Ventures, the first multi-stage venture capital studio in Iowa, plans to expand into the QC region by building a local syndicate network of investors to support regional entrepreneurs on both sides of the river. The student-run Leatherneck Country Meats – the Purple and Gold Standard of Western Illinois University- is once again offering a bundle pork sale to the public. The operation is run through the University Farm and uses animals raised there as part of the University’s academic offerings, including classes on swine science and as part of WIU’s nationally-successful Livestock Judging Team. According to Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management Troy Rhoads, the University will be using approximately $19 million state funding, provided through the Capital Development Board, to implement much-needed maintenance and repairs to the existing facilities campuswide. City Of Moline Gets Over $400,000 From Cyberfraud Incident

Moline has received a $404,764.59 recovery payment from its cyber liability insurance carrier, Tokio Marine HCC, stemming from a December 2020 phishing fraud incident. That incident resulted in the city sending two fraudulent wire transfers on 12/16 and 12/30 of 2020 for a total loss of $421,119.86. With the assistance of the FBI and U.S. Secret Service, $6,355.30 was recovered. The recovery payment of $404,764.59 is the remainder, minus the deductible of $10,000. Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) joined her colleagues on a letter to the Department of Defense urging Secretary Lloyd Austin to make at-home COVID-19 tests available to service members and their families at no cost and without unnecessary medical requirements.
