Family Museum offers tons for kids to do over spring break!

As the weather becomes brighter and the days become longer, the blooms break through the ground, a familiar sound of school bells grows silent as children across the area get revved up for spring break — and parents are suddenly hit with the thought of what they’re going to do with those kiddies during that time off.
However, parents need not get too worried, as the Bettendorf Family Museum is ready with a full slate of activities to keep the kiddies happy, thinking and burning off some of that excess energy.

All events and performances are included with admission or membership! Sponsored by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Here’s what’s going on! Mark your calendars!

Jim Gill (Monday, March 14,  10:30 am): Get ready to sing, clap, dance, and sneeze along during this visit by award-winning musician and author, Jim Gill. Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates the spirit of a family room in a concert and is an invitation to children, parents, and grandparents to sing and play together!

QC Rock Academy (Tuesday, March 15,  10:30 am): Feel the beat and rock out with some talented kids from the QC Rock Academy as they showcase their stuff. Have an opportunity to check out some of the instruments and how you can get involved with this great group.

Comedy Sportz “Rated E for Everyone” (Tuesday, March 15, 1:30 pm): Get ready for some laughs! The Comedy Sportz team from right here in the Quad Cities will take the stage at the Family Museum! The “act-letes” hilarious improvisation skits will have kids giggling! The audience-involved show is appropriate for the entire family.

Heroes and Princesses Day (Wednesday, March 16,  10:30 am – 3:00 pm): Be your own hero or princess! Come in costume or make one of your own! Capes, and masks, and bracelets are just waiting for you to design. Power through an obstacle course or try to catapult a frog into the “pond.”

Earth Balloon (Thursday, March 17, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm): Step inside the planet Earth! Take off your shoes and experience the Earth in a whole new way … from the inside! Earth Balloon is a 20’ diameter model of the Earth made of high resolution satellite images and true to life colors. Programs run approximately 20 minutes every half-hour, last show begins at 3:30. *Please be aware that no more than 30 people will be allowed in the Earth Balloon at a time.

Star Gazing (Thursday, March 17, 7:00 pm Weather Permitting): The galaxies and stars aren’t so far, far away when you look through a telescope. Dress warmly for an evening of star gazing brought to you in memory of Gary Aronson, a long-time board member and astronomy enthusiast who donated his wonderful telescope to the Family Museum. Dan Wardell from IPTV (Friday, March 18,  10:30 am): Join us for reading and singing and silliness with IPTV Kids’ Club Host Dan Wardell. He’s a favorite across Iowa for encouraging kids to turn off the TV, go outside and play, use their imagination, read lots of good books, and eat healthy food. Wonder what Dan will do at the Family Museum?

Star Wars Day (Saturday, March 19, 10:30 am – 3:00 pm): “Use the Force” to find your way to the Family Museum, but beware: the Dark Side as Darth Vader will be recruiting! Make a pretend light saber and R2D2. Come in costume and enjoy a day devoted to Star Wars. Meet Darth Vader and learn some Saber Combat moves through a Mini Jedi Training Academy. Light Saber Duel: 10:45 am and 1:45 pm. Young Jedi Training: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Photo Ops: 10:00 – 10:45 am, 1:00 – 1:45 pm, and 3:00 – 4:00 pm
