Artist Talk And Reception For Zaiga Minka Thorson Exhibit Tonight At Davenport’s Figge Museum
๐ญ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ด๐ฎ ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ธ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป: ๐๐ฉ๐ค๐ง๐ข๐จ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐๐จ will be on view in the Figgeโs first floor Gildehaus Gallery including 18 new paintings and a site-specific installation of ๐๐ฑ๐ช๐ณ๐ช๐ต ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ, a suspended boat made of wire and fabric, serving as a repository to carry away pain and burdens. Above ๐๐ฑ๐ช๐ณ๐ช๐ต ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ glowing papier mache orbs will be suspended, representing hope, gratitude and spiritual connections. There will be an artist talk tonight at 6:30 p.m., with a member reception at 5 p.m. for interested parties to listen to the creator and see the works.
The exhibition explores concepts of trauma and loss while emphasizing artโs ability to heal and renew. Visitors will be invited to tell their story by writing on pieces of cloth, which will be continuously added by Thorson to the sculptural components of the exhibition.
