Hey Quad Cities, take a trip to the beautiful Caribbean without leaving home this weekend!

Ya Maka My Weekend, the “Original District Festival” is celebrating its 28th year this Saturday Aug 10, in the District of Rock Island! Gates open at 4 p.m.

Come enjoy some Caribbean cuisine, that island vibe and even an open-air marketplace! The “Ya Maka Beach” will be ready for you to play in, dig for buried treasure, or build a sandcastle!

Here is the line-up for some live Caribbean music, to give the real ambience of being on the beach:

4:15 – 5:30 p.m.              TBA

5:45 – 7:15 p.m.              Indika

7:30 – 9 p.m.                   The Jumbies

9:15 – 10:45 p.m.            Kofi with Indika

 

You can also catch live entertainment from Doug Brundies in Coconut Cove, located in the Caribbean Food Court (from 5:45 – 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 – 10:45 p.m.) New this year will be a 220’ Zip Line through the ‘Concrete Jungle of The District’!

Admission is $10 until 10:30 p.m. when it drops to $5. Kids 12 and under are FREE! Tickets can be purchased in advance at Daiquiri Factory, by calling (309) 786-1016 or at the gate.

Ya Maka My Weekend was the very first festival held in The District and started in 1992. Since that time the event has been constantly evolving. You’ll still find the same great reggae music and Caribbean food with a different twist each year!
