Chicago artist Toby Zallman will have her solo exhibition, “Our Plastic Trash,” on display through Friday, Sept. 24 at the Western Illinois University Art Gallery. Zallman is a Chicago artist whose art practice focuses on sculpture and drawing. In 2004, after becoming aware of how damaging our plastic and e-waste is to the environment, she changed her materials to both incorporate recycled/re-purposed materials in her sculpture, as well as a source of visual inspiration for both the sculptures and drawings. For area students who are beginning the college search process, the annual Illinois Regional College Fair will be hosted by Western Illinois University Tuesday, Sept. 21. The fair, which will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in the University Union Grand Ballroom on the WIU-Macomb campus, will feature representatives from WIU and approximately 50 public and private Midwestern universities. The first of several memorials to a beloved Western Illinois University Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration (RPTA) chair and professor emeritus was placed at Horn Field Campus last week. Frank “Doc” Lupton passed away in March in Minnesota. During his tenure at WIU (1971-1993), Lupton led WIU’s RPTA department, as well as its semester-long field studies program, known as the Environmental Conservation and Outdoor Education Expedition (ECOEE), which included a wilderness trip component. Make a Color (run) for the kids! The Western Illinois University RockyTHON (Dance Marathon) will hold its third annual Color Run for the Kids Sunday, Sept. 19. The event is part of the student organization’s year-round effort to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. Public Art Tractor to be Unveiled Sept. 11 At Western Illinois University

The unveiling of a public art project to raise awareness for farm machinery on the roadway will be from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, in the Mummert Pocket Park, next to Forgottonia Brewing and the Bold Brew House in Macomb. The project is a vintage Farmall H tractor, covered in mosaic glass tiles, which depict scenes of farm life in the area. The project’s unveiling was delayed so fundraising for lighting and fencing could continue.
