Amy C. Novak, president of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D., will become the 14th president of St. Ambrose University, Davenport, this August. She was chosen earlier this month by the SAU Board of Trustees following a national search and will succeed Sister Joan Lescinski, CSJ, PhD., who will retire after 14 years as SAU president. St. Ambrose University’s Galvin Fine Arts Center has received $27,300 from the state of Iowa from the program offering economic relief to the state’s arts and culture industry. The grant (announced late last month) is provided through the Iowa Arts & Culture Recovery Program, and will reimburse Galvin for some losses incurred in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite an online petition protesting theater cuts, the private St. Ambrose University in Davenport has decided to eliminate its award-winning theater major, but maintain faculty and programs.
