Quad City Storm Sitting Out The 2020-2021 Season Due To Covid

Storm hockey will not return to Moline’s TaxSlayer until at least fall of 2021. Due to restrictions on mass gatherings put in place by the State of Illinois as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic the Quad City Storm will be sitting out the 2020-2021 SPHL season.  The State is currently in Phase 4 of the “Restore Illinois” plan, which prohibits individuals from attending large gatherings without a proven vaccine or cure for COVID-19.  The current mandate would allow just fifty people to attend a Storm game. Quad City Storm Eyeing December Start Date For Season

Could there be some hockey this year after all? Maybe, but it’ll be late this year. The league of the Quad City Storm, the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced that it is targeting mid-to-late December for the start of the 2020-2021 regular season. “With the continued spikes in COVID-19 throughout the country and the challenges other sports are facing in their attempts to resume play, delaying our start to December gives us the best chance of completing an entire season with all 10 teams,” stated Commissioner Doug Price. “In addition, various state restrictions... Read More

Amidst a furious playoff run and some fantastic entertainment in front of growing crowds, the Quad City Storm has pulled the plug on their second season on order of their league, the SPHL. The Quad City Storm’s season, as well as the seasons of all SPHL hockey teams, has been suspended due to concerns over the coronavirus. A press release from the SPHL released this evening stated: For the safety of our fans, players, team personnel and arena staff, the Southern Professional Hockey League today announced that due to concerns over the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, it has suspended the 2019-2020 season effective immediately. Storm forward Connor Fries has been named the SPHL’s Warrior ‘Player Of The Week.’  It is the first player of the week honor for a Storm player in franchise history.  Per the SPHL: “The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced that Connor Fries of the Quad City Storm was named the Warrior Hockey/SPHL Player of the Week for December 30-January 5. Q-C Storm Wins Amos Award, Donates To United Way

Earlier this month, local hockey team the Quad City Storm were named Wanda Amos award winners; the award given by the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) for superior community service. With the award, the league granted the team $1,000 to donate to a non-profit organization of their choice.   The Storm presented United Way of the Quad Cities CEO Rene Gellerman with the $1,000 check for her organization after winning the award. #QCStormCares  Read More
