The Library is partnering with the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in association with the Smithsonian Institution for ‘Are You Smarter Than an 1850s 8th Grader?’ Join us Monday, June 14th at 2:00 pm and learn more about one-room schoolhouses and early education, then we will put the audience to the test by taking the 8th-grade graduation exam from the 1850s. The annual Teen Anime Day is going virtual! Forty is a milestone birthday, even if you’re a fictional literary wizard. The Rock Island Public Library will celebrate Harry Potter’s fictional birthday on July 30 with a virtual trivia game for muggles and wizards of all ages. The Happy Birthday Harry Potter Trivia game will be presented via Facebook Live from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 30.  Questions come from all seven books. Rock Island Public Library Open With Limited Access

The Rock Island Public Library has introduced limited building access and hours at both its Downtown and Southwest Library locations. This phase of the library’s gradual reopening coordinates with Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. Buildings will be open to the public at both locations from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Saturdays are reserved for curbside pickup only, which is from 9:00 am to noon. Good news: Rock Island Public Library buildings will open for Limited Hours and Building Access starting July 6! This follows news that the State is moving soon to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan.[News Release] The July 6 start date allows us time to implement revised procedures and to ensure safety protocols are in place.  In keeping with state health guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required for library entry. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – All four of Western Illinois University’s libraries have set up a version of curbside pickup to allow access to materials. The Leslie F. Malpass Library, the Curriculum Library, the Music Library and the WIU-Quad Cities Library have created a system to let users arrange for pickup of library materials. The Rock Island Public Library introduced contact-free curbside pick-up for library materials beginning Tuesday, May 26. There will be no public access to library buildings during this phase of the library’s gradual reopening plan. Curbside pick-up will be available during limited hours by appointment only at the Rock Island Public Library Downtown and Southwest locations.
