Two new events are brewing Saturday, Oct. 15 at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. A Genealogy Workshop with Antje Petty runs from 9:30am-12:00pm. Cost is $35 Members $40 nonmembers, pre-registration and payment are required prior to the event. Antje will cover two topics-“Your Family History” (9:30-10:30) and “German-American Resources for Genealogists” (11:00-12:00) in this two session workshop. Lederhosen 5K Running Into Quad-Cities

It’s usually a bad thing when you get a run in your hose, but this weekend, running in an event named after hose will lead to a lot of good things, charity-wise. The Lederhosen 5k will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Felsen Insel (Rock Island). People are encouraged to dress up for the run/walk in your best lederhosen or dirndl. There’s even a half-mile fun run called the Kinderlauf for the kids. New Exhibit, Show Heading Into German American Heritage Center

Two new events highlight the weekend at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The first is a new exhibit, “Indelible Ink” opening Sunday, September 4. This exhibit will feature a variety of pieces from the Erick O. Schonstedt Inkstand Collection on loan from the Augustana College Art Collection and will run through Sunday, January 8. “One, Two, Three,” by the comedic film genius Billy Wilder is the next film to unspool in the Germans in Hollywood: Film & Lecture Series taking place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. `14 at the Figge Art Museum-John Deere Auditorium, downtown Davenport. The film will be presented and accompanied by a lecture by Augustana College German professor Lisa Seidlitz. Cost is $5 per person. “One, Two, Three” is a 1961 American comedy directed by WIlder. The German American Heritage Center is sponsoring a new film and lecture series called “Germans in Hollywood” that debuts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Figge Art Museum, John Deere Auditorium. The first film to be screened is “Heidi.” Cost is $5. Presenter Fred Isele will introduce “Heidi,” an American musical drama film directed by Allan Dwan. The screenplay was based on the 1880 children’s story by Swiss author Johanna Spyri.
