The world is full of different spices and we are going to attempt to try them all! Join us on the first Tuesday of each month through December at 6:30 pm at Fairmount (3000 N. Fairmount St.) as we try a new spice and recipe, which will be provided to you. Come back the following month to discuss the spice and recipes we tried. Rock Island Public Library Offers Homebound Resources Program

The Rock Island Public Library recently introduced a Homebound Resources service to deliver library materials to Rock Island and Milan residents who are temporarily or permanently homebound. “Though we’ve always allowed patrons to designate an official representative to pick up and return materials for them, that’s sometimes not convenient or even possible,” said Victoria Schoess, Director of Circulation Services for the Rock Island Public Library. “We created the Homebound Resources service to deliver materials to those who don’t have a representative and can’t get out.”  Homebound... Read More

World War II in Iowa Explored in New Exhibit At Davenport's German American Heritage Museum

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, as Japan unconditionally surrendered to the Allies on Aug. 14, 1945. To commemorate the end of the global conflict (which killed 416,800 U.S. military), the German American Heritage Center in Davenport has a new exhibit – “Valor & Victory Gardens: WWII in the Hawkeye State.” It explores how the war impacted Iowa. With this exhibit, the museum remembers and commemorates the period through local headlines, personal letters, and historic artifacts. World War II cost the lives of 5,633 Iowa soldiers, as well as 18,601 from Illinois.... Read More
