Augustana College’s next studio show “Medea” provides a new take on a powerful classic

Augustana College Theatre Arts Department will present “Medea” by Euripides, translation by Nicholas Rudall, January 13 – 16, 2022. Performances on Thursday through Saturday will begin at 7:30 pm and 1:30 pm on Sunday. The production will be held in the Honkamp Blackbox Theatre located on the third floor of the Brunner Theatre Center. Rock Island, Illinois – The Augustana College Department of Theatre announces its lineup of productions for the 2021-22 season, which will include more performances than in previous years. Main stage productions take place in the Kim and Donna Brunner Main Stage Theatre and are directed by Augustana College professors. The Augustana College Department of Theatre Arts will present “One Flea Spare,” directed by Jennifer Popple, Thursday through Sunday, May 6 to 9, at Brunner Theatre Center, 3750 7th Ave., Rock Island. Darkly comic and deeply moving by turns, “One Flea Spare” is set in plague-ravaged 17th-century London, where social roles and the boundaries that describe them have turned upside down. New Augustana Online Production Tells Illuminating Story of Autistic Boy

In the moving play, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” audiences get inside the mind of a 15-year-old gifted autistic boy. Augustana College will present a recorded live performance of their production online at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. As many theaters and musicians nationwide have moved performances online, the Mississippi Bend Players at Augustana College is salvaging part of its canceled summer season, by offering a virtual reading Friday, Aug. 21, of playwright Sarah Ruhl’s deeply personal “For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday.” (The performance originally was scheduled for Aug. 14, but was postponed after power outages this week. Augustana College invites the community to Chill on the Hill at the new Anderson Pavilion on campus, this Sunday Sep 8. The free event will feature food trucks and local bands at the Ruth and Lefty Anderson Pavilion, 3750 7th Ave., Rock Island. The pavilion is just south of the Brunner Theater Center, and the most convenient parking is in the Centennial Hall lot across 7th Avenue. Visitors should bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
