“Taylor is deserving of the Harrison Kowiak Scholarship due to her hard work and dedication toward hazing prevention within her own sorority, Sigma Delta Tau, and at Western Illinois University,” said Nick Katz, director of WIU’s Office of Student Engagement. “She works tirelessly to educate students on the dangers of hazing, and provides support to all social, Greek-lettered organizations in her role as the Fraternity and Sorority Life program coordinator.”

Sessions during the institute help professionals put hazing prevention plans in places for schools, universities, teams, clubs and organizations of all sizes. The scholarship fund is named for 19-year-old Harrison Kowiak, who lost his life after a hazing incident at a North Carolina college.

“The Kowiak family is very proud and honored to enable these individuals to attend the institute and take the latest hazing prevention strategies back to their campuses and organizations,” said Lianne Kowiak, Harrison’s mother. “We cannot change the events of losing our beautiful son and brother, however, we can try to educate others and support efforts to prevent hazing moving forward.”
