MACOMB/Moline, IL – As Homecoming festivities at Western Illinois University are underway, the scheduled Paint the Paws event has been postponed until Saturday, April 24. The annual event involves the painting of more than 200 paws along University Drive and Western Avenue. The painting was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 27.

The special Spring ’21 Homecoming will have a mix of in-person and virtual activities, with the 5K Old Stompin’ Ground Runaround run/walk, scheduled for Saturday, April 3. The virtual option can be completed any time April 3. The in-person race will include a contactless check-in starting at 7 a.m., with the race to follow at 8 a.m.

The remainder of the Spring 2021 Homecoming schedule includes:

TikTok Challenge: March 22-26 – Students can submit their TikTok video to the uubhomecoming@wiu.edu for approval. When a submissions is approved, the Homecoming Committee will post it on its Instagram. The videos with the top three likes will receive a prize. Outdoor Movie Night: 7:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30 – The movie, “Knives Out,” will be shown on the field next to Corbin/Olson residence halls.

Scavenger Hunt: Noon-2 p.m., Thursday, April 1 – Students will work in teams, or individually, to complete the clues and activities via an app. There will be 25 locations. At each location, there will be one Rocky dog statue worth additional points. The top three students (group or individual) will receive a prize.

In-Person and Virtual Old Stompin’ Ground Runaround: Saturday, April 3 – Join the WIU Alumni Association for an in-person and virtual Old Stompin’ Ground Runaround 5K Run/1.5 mile walk. The virtual option can be completed any time April 3. The in-person race will include a contactless check-in starting at 7 a.m., with the race to follow at 8 a.m.

Paint the Paws: 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24 – Students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to take part in the annual WIU Homecoming tradition. Hosted by the WIU Alumni Association, the Paint the Paws event involves the painting of more than 200 paws along University Drive and Western Avenue.
