Edgar Crockett Quartet Swinging Jazz Into Davenport’s Figge Plaza Tonight

The Figge Art Museum and River Music Experience are hosting the Edgar Crockett Quartet Thursday (Aug. 12) outside on the Figge’s Bechtel Plaza from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guests will be able to listen to jazz music, partake in jazz-inspired art activities related to jazz music, use drawing horses to sketch the band, and partake in food and beverages for purchase from the Figge Cafe’s Chef Stu.

Jazz trumpeter Edgar Crockett, who retired this year from the Black Hawk music faculty, will perform for free Thursday outside the Figge Art Museum, Davenport.

This event is free and registration is not required. During his impressive career, Crockett has performed with Ray Charles, Roberta Flack, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson, Maureen McGovern, Shirley Jones, The Temptations, The Four Tops and many others.

As a jazz trumpeter and director, he has performed with Jimmy Heath, David Sanchez, Wycliffe Gordon, Vincent Herring, Tom Harrell, J.J. Johnson, Louie Bellson, Clark Terry, Alex Acuna, Buddy Di Franco, Urbie Green, Bill Watrous, Alex Sipiagin, Danillo Perez, Javon Jackson, Stefon Harris, Jim Snidero, John Clayton, Diego Urcola, Mark Levine, Jon Weber, Seamus Blake, Marquis Hill and many other jazz greats. Jonathan Turner -- who has called the Quad Cities home since 1995 -- has decades of experience as a professional journalist and pianist. His experience writing for daily newspapers, public radio and local TV encompasses a wide range of subjects, including the arts, politics, education, economic development, historic preservation, business, and tourism.
Jonathan most loves writing about music and the arts (which he now does as a freelancer for the River Cities Reader and Visit Quad Cities). Jonathan penned a 175-page history book about downtown Davenport, that was published by The History Press in 2016, and a travel guide about the QC published by Reedy Press in 2022.
