mercado logoMercado on Fifth, an open-air market in the Floreciente neighborhood in downtown Moline, is opening to the public on Friday.

The Grand Opening, which will include a ribbon cutting ceremony by Lee Vasquez from the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber, is scheduled for Friday, August 26 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will enjoy fresh produce, prepared foods, live music, and entertainment for all ages including live music by The Crooked Cactus Band from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., food vendors including El Mariachi, Divine Soul2Soul, Hacienda, Streets of Italy Pizza, What’s Poppin Popcorn, and many more, craft vendors including Two Gems Jewelry and a movie showing of Selena beginning at dusk.

Mercado on Fifth, located at 5th Avenue & 11th Street in Moline will be open each Friday from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. through October 28. Admission is free.
West Gateway Partners L.L.C., has developed the market. The group, led by Bob Ontiveros, has already made a significant impact to the Floreciente neighborhood with the successful development of the Community Health Center, Familia Dental Clinic and the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center.   Growing up in Moline’s Floreciente neighborhood himself, Mr. Ontiveros has been the driving force behind the development.
