Dear University Community, While Pride Month is celebrated annually each June in remembrance of the Stonewall uprising, Western Illinois University will celebrate Pride Month throughout April to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had at WIU throughout the years. The WIU LGBT*QA Resource Center, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Multicultural Center and other University programs and departments have several activities scheduled to commemorate Pride Month. In 2011, the LGBT*QA Resource Center was established at Western Illinois University to serve as a home, and to raise awareness for, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning+ community at WIU. Ten years later, the resource center provides that home-away-from-home, numerous programming and events and resources for the WIU and surrounding communities. Western Illinois University COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Set for April 1

The McDonough County Health Department, in cooperation with Western Illinois University, will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for WIU faculty, staff and student employees only (graduate assistants and undergrad student workers) from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1 on the WIU-Macomb campus. Please note that retirees, dependents, spouses and alumni are not eligible to participate. Western Illinois University’s student-run, broadcast news station, NEWS3, won a broadcasting award at the annual National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition, hosted by NBS March 28. NEWS3 staffers Jenna Skarlupka, a senior broadcasting and journalism major, from Freeport, IL, and Cayson Frerichs, a senior broadcasting and journalism major, from Geneseo, IL, won a national award in the Web News Article category for “COVID-19 by the Numbers: WIU reports positive tests ‘administered by the University.'” Skarlupka and Frerichs were finalists in the category, along... Read More

Western Illinois University Board Votes To Raise Tuition, Room And Board For Next Year

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees voted to increase tuition, room and meal plan rates for new, incoming students at its March 26 Board meeting. Tuition, room and meal plan rates have remained level/unchanged since Fiscal Year 2020 (Fall 2019). The 2021-2022 tuition rate for all incoming domestic undergraduate students will move to at $9,238 annually ($307.94/credit hour), from $8,883 annually. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – As Homecoming festivities at Western Illinois University are underway, the scheduled Paint the Paws event has been postponed until Saturday, April 24. The annual event involves the painting of more than 200 paws along University Drive and Western Avenue. The painting was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 27. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – As part of Western Illinois University’s re-accreditation process, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)Review Team will conduct three open forums via Zoom for WIU faculty and staff Monday, March 29-Tuesday, March 30.
