The Solar Eclipse was a “totally” awesome experience for Rock Island school students yesterday! A HUGE THANK YOU to the Rock Island Public Library for donating 1895 solar eclipse glasses to the district! Students and staff across the district immersed themselves in this celestial event, from using their eclipse glasses to witness the view, to engaging in activities to create their own artistic representation of the solar eclipse, to creative lessons that explained what a solar eclipse is.  Read More

Two Rock Island teachers are being recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education for excelling in and out of the classroom! Mr. Mertel (RIHS) and Ms. Jett (EJHS) both received Those Who Excel Awards. Mr. Mertel received the Award of Meritorious Service. Rock Island High School is hosting its annual FAFSA Completion Workshop night! Families can receive assistance in completing the 2024-25 FAFSA. FAFSA is free and gives you access to the largest sources of financial aid to pay for college or career school. Black Hawk College is also hosting two FAFSA Completions nights. A Washington Jr. High student got to have her wish come true! Markelah Hicks suffers from diabetes and wanted to meet a princess so the staff at WJHS made it happen! They reached out to Miss Iowa, Alysa Goethe and she stopped by the school. Miss Iowa who also suffers from diabetes shared her story with Health, AVID, and Functional classrooms. At just the age of 17 Moon Haynes is a published writer. Moon, a senior at Thurgood Marshall Learning Center says she’s always enjoyed writing and it’s kind of therapeutic for her. Her writing caught her creative writing teacher’s attention, Mr. Britton. “Moon knew I taught creative writing and had previously let me read a poem that was written during free time in a different class.
