The Rock Island Public Library Children’s Department continues to ZOOM into entertaining learning online and at home with new and returning events this September. On Wednesday, September 9, the library offers a Virtual Superhero Party from 10:30 am to 11:15 am via its ZOOM meeting software. Ages 5 and under can listen to a book read by Children’s Librarian Ms. Ranell, and then work on crafts and activities together via ZOOM. Library2Go, the Rock Island Public Library’s traveling outreach vehicle, brings a new Park ‘n Craft activity to its August 31 stop at Black Hawk State Park. Registered participants for the Park’n Craft kit may meet Library2Go at the 11:30 to 12:30 pm stop on Monday, August 31 at the Black Hawk State Park Singing Bird Nature Center lot on 46th Avenue. Forty is a milestone birthday, even if you’re a fictional literary wizard. The Rock Island Public Library will celebrate Harry Potter’s fictional birthday on July 30 with a virtual trivia game for muggles and wizards of all ages. The Happy Birthday Harry Potter Trivia game will be presented via Facebook Live from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 30.  Questions come from all seven books. The just-for-fun game consists of five rounds of five questions each. Answers will be given after each round for scoring at home. Rock Island Public Library Announces Expansion of Digital Magazine Collection

Rock Island Public Library (RIPL) has vastly expanded its selection of digital magazines available through RBdigital, a service of Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD.)  After a year on the RBdigital platform, RIPL moved from a basic subscription of just 50 magazines to an unlimited subscription offering access to 3,200 magazines. RBdigital features full-color, digital magazines for instant desktop reading, mobile streaming, and mobile-app download, available anytime with an internet connection. In addition to offering remote WiFi access, the Rock Island Mobile Library2Go vehicle is now serving as a contactless holds pickup point and taking returns. To pick up, patrons pull up to a Mobile Library stop and call the number posted outside the vehicle. Library staff will bring reserved items out for contactless pickup. Rock Island Public Library Open With Limited Access

The Rock Island Public Library has introduced limited building access and hours at both its Downtown and Southwest Library locations. This phase of the library’s gradual reopening coordinates with Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. Buildings will be open to the public at both locations from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Saturdays are reserved for curbside pickup only, which is from 9:00 am to noon. Good news: Rock Island Public Library buildings will open for Limited Hours and Building Access starting July 6! This follows news that the State is moving soon to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan.[News Release] The July 6 start date allows us time to implement revised procedures and to ensure safety protocols are in place.  In keeping with state health guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required for library entry.
