Black Box Theatre Presenting 'The 39 Steps'

The Black Box Theatre once again presents a 1940’s style radio play with “The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry. The show is scheduled for August 20 to 30. Tickets on Thursdays are $13 and $16 all other performances. According to Playscripts the piece is “Inspired by Hitchcock’s classic tale and performed as a live period radio play, this romantic thriller is a fast-paced ride through the signature world of the Master of Suspense. At Tuesday night’s board meeting for Quad City Music Guild, it was decided to cancel the theater’s winter production, “Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn,” to continue to protect the safety of participants and patrons, and to comply with Phase Four of Illinois Gov. As Circa ’21 awaits word from the Illinois Governor’s office on when it can reopen, the theater is not sitting back and waiting!  Circa ’21 is set to debut three new shows in the secondary theater, The Speakeasy. “The Wedding Singer” this past February was the last musical at the Spotlight Theatre, 1800 7th Ave., Moline. Black Box Theatre Finally Debuting 'Turn Of The Screw' July 16-19

The Black Box Theatre was in rehearsal for the Jeffrey Hatcher adaptation of The Turn of The Screw when Covid-19 shut everything down. As Illinois enters Phase 4 of re-opening the actors are once again rehearsing and looking forward to performing. Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse, 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island, will remain closed until this fall, since it can’t financially absorb losses due to the latest Illinois reopening guidelines, owner/producer Denny Hitchcock announced Wednesday.
