Juno-Award Winning Jazz Group Allison Au Quartet Visiting Quad-Cities

Born to a Chinese father and Jewish mother, and raised in the multicultural metropolis of Toronto, saxophonist Allison Au found music as a young child. Her work is a concoction steeped in the tradition of jazz but skillfully laced with elements of classical, pop, R&B/hip hop, Latin, and world music. From Oct. 28 through Nov. 2, Au will bring her quartet into schools and community sites to provide musical outreach through a residency with Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series. Harlem Quartet, the fourth visiting artist in the 2019-2020 season, will bring their musical talents and educational outreach to the Quad Cities Oct. 21-25. The New York-based quartet, currently serving a three-year residency at London’s Royal College of Music, will visit 11 schools and community sites during their week of outreach work. On Saturday, October 11, Rozz-Tox will be the site of one band’s re-emergence and another’s reinvention, as Giallows and Murnau share the bill. Returning to the stage after a long, multi-year sleep are the guitar-and-drums two-piece Murnau. Marvin Franzen, the amicable denim-clad driver of the tractor that shuttles folks to shows at Codfish Hollow Barnstormers, is out of surgery and on the healing path after a horrible accident August 10 when his tractor flipped, breaking two arms and his pelvis. However, medical costs are skyrocketing, and there’s been a GoFundMe set up to help with expenses. Codfish Hollow updated his condition with a post today: Marvin needs all the support he can get.
