On Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 am, join our ALA-funded panel of experts as they view climate change through the lens of worsening local Mississippi River flooding. Alcohol is the #1 abused substance in the state of Iowa and Iowa ranks second in the nation for excessive drinking. Almost half of the youth in Scott County reported having had their first drink of alcohol before age 17. The Davenport Public Library is partnering with Oelerich, Reiling, & Miller PC & Shred-It to present a Free Shred Day on Thursday, April 22nd from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Davenport Eastern Avenue Branch (6000 Eastern Ave.). Community members can bring up to three standard file containers, maximum size 15 x 12 x 10 inches, for secure shredding. Documents will be confidentially shredded on-site. Binders must be removed, but staples and paperclips are fine. One in five Iowans has been negatively affected by a friend or family member’s gambling. Join prevention staff from the Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc. on March 24th at 1:00 pm on Zoom to learn about the hidden addiction of gambling.
