On a day before record low temperatures were predicted to freeze the Quad-Cities, hundreds of people spent a brrrrr-tiful afternoon celebrating winter’s wiles during the free Icetravaganza at Davenport’s Freight House. Mammoth ice sculptures were sliced and sawed, children frolicked in play areas, little girls smiled at all manner of “Frozen” and princess related items and people enjoyed hot soup and drinks as they perused a plethora of swag in a bustling market atmosphere. RAW Brings Fresh Tastes To Downtown Davenport

Twice now I have had the pleasure of visiting RAW, a new cocktail lounge located at 136 East 3rd Street in Downtown Davenport. Upon my second visit I was lucky enough to ask one of the owners, Sid Rognoni, a few questions about the establishment. Rognoni and the other owner, Chris Odendahl, co-own Bowls Urban Eats, the restaurant just up the block. They had their eye on the space for awhile, wanting to open a high-end bar. Two new events are brewing Saturday, Oct. 15 at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. A Genealogy Workshop with Antje Petty runs from 9:30am-12:00pm. Cost is $35 Members $40 nonmembers, pre-registration and payment are required prior to the event. New Exhibit, Show Heading Into German American Heritage Center

Two new events highlight the weekend at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The first is a new exhibit, “Indelible Ink” opening Sunday, September 4. This exhibit will feature a variety of pieces from the Erick O. Schonstedt Inkstand Collection on loan from the Augustana College Art Collection and will run through Sunday, January 8. Quad-Cities artists Amber Williams and Ana Garza Moore took the top honors in the Revive 2 art exhibit taking place through August at Bucktown Arts Gallery, 225 East 2nd St.,  Davenport. Williams won the Board Award, chosen by the members of the Bucktown arts board, where Moore took home the Viewers’ Choice Award, voted upon by attendees of the exhibit. “I’m really happy and a little surprised,” said Williams, about the award, which netted her $100 in addition to a certificate of achievement. “Last year I got the people’s choice, which I was really excited about.
