Rock Island’s Augustana College is ready to make a splash, after announcing this week they’re going to be adding men’s and women’s water polo to its varsity sports lineup beginning with the 2021-22 school year. Director of athletics Mike Zapolski announced in a press release on the Augustana site that the two genders of water polo will give the Vikings 14 women’s sports and 14 men’s sports. ROCK ISLAND – Women’s wrestling will hit the mats at Augustana College beginning with the 2021-22 school year! Augustana College is proud to present a live performance from The Real Group, an a cappella group visiting from Sweden. This exciting performance from The Real Group will take place in Wallenberg Hall (3520 7th Avenue Rock Island) on Tuesday Feb 11 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $12 for senior citizens, $10 for Augustana faculty/staff, $5 for children and non-Augustana students and free for Augustana students with an ID. The NFL is returning to Rock Island! Ok, well, not a team, but the draft. Sorry! Anyway, according to officials with the parks and recreation department for the city, Round 6 of the NFL draft will be held at Augustana College on April 27. Former Augustana College and NFL quarterback Ken Anderson is also said to be involved with the proceedings. Why Rock Island? One of the founding teams of the NFL in 1920, the Rock Island Independents played their games at Douglas Park.
