For the past two years, I have ridden on Augustana’s Western Equestrian Team with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. It has been on this team that I have met some of my closest friends from college, ridden some amazing horses, and gained so much experience with handling different horses in a show arena. What drew you into movies the most? Was it the storyline? The romance? The characters? The costumes? Or was it the action scenes: the brawling, the pistol duels, the sword fights? Quad City Playwrights’ Festival accepting submissions

The Quad City Playwrights’ Festival is quickly approaching and submissions are being accepted now. Selected works will be presented in a staged reading in the Honkamp Black Box Theatre in the Brunner Theatre Center on May 13, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. The festival is currently calling for submissions. Submission requirements: original work, 10-minute script with a maximum of 10 pages, authored by one individual who resides in the Quad-Cities area or is an Augustana student or alum, no adaptions and no excerpt script from larger works. Local students get the chance to play with the Navy Band

The United States Navy Concert Band, which has been entertaining audiences and supporting the Navy with some of the best musicians in the country, played to a full house at Augustana College’s Centennial Hall this weekend. The band has played for a Quad-Cities audience many times, and the college was glad to once again host them for an energetic and high-level performance. Stop Kiss at Augustana postponed until next season

The Augustana College Department of Theatre will be postponing their Black Box student-directed production of Stop Kiss until next season. This postponed performance was previously scheduled to run this weekend, April 6-9. The band She/Her will no longer be performing as part of the Stop Kiss production. Navy Concert Marches Into Rock Island

Looking for a relaxing and patriotic way to spend your Sunday afternoon? Then you are in luck! On Sunday, April 2 the United State Navy Concert Band is coming to Rock Island! The concert will be held at Augustana College’s Centennial Hall, located at 3703 7th Avenue Rock Island. The show will run from 2-4pm. This is a FREE event! However, tickets are required to avoid overfilling the auditorium. There is a limit of six tickets per request. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 68 children (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls) are identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  April is National Autism Awareness Month and is an excellent opportunity to promote autism awareness, autism acceptance and to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnoses every year. The Augustana Symphony Orchestra’s winter concert, “Through the Forest,” will give listeners an artistic treatment of folk tales and the natural world.
