Nutrition Outlet Bringing Good Health, Good Vibes
Right off the riverside hustle and bustle of Mississippi Drive in Muscatine is an oasis of calm. You walk in, and you’re greeted by soft, gentle music, a room painted in violet and blue and filled with the scent of lavender and sandalwood.
This is Nutrition Outlet, and it’s not your average vitamin store.
The outlet, at 403 W. Mississippi Dr., has been open since 2000, beginning as a sports supplement outlet before morphing, over the years, into something far more.
“It’s not just your run of the mill mall store, with stuff that everybody has,” said Shelly Meier, who owns the shop with her husband, Joe. “We offer a lot more, and with more of a personal touch. We know all of our customers, we offer very competitive pricing, with everything below suggested retail prices, and we’re always available to answer questions or talk about the different things we sell.”
The independently owned outlet boasts the usual vitamins and herbal blends, yes, but it also offers homeopathy, botanicals, aromatherapy, CBD oils, custom made essential oils and other esoteric wares, in addition to hosting classes on nutrition, supplements, lifestyle and more.
“I love the energy of it, I love everything I do,” Shelly said. “I love helping people, helping them heal. It’s great to give someone research or point them to different perspectives and let them do their own research and think for themselves. I would rather send someone away than sell them something that’s not going to be good for them or that they don’t want.
“It’s very rewarding when someone comes back and says that something we’ve sold them or told them about has helped them,” she said. “It’s great to see someone really happy and someone in much better health because of something we helped them with. That’s what it’s all about.”
Meier makes some of her items to order, including essential oils, organic skin care products, homeopathic treatments, aromatherapy oils and more.
“It’s a passion of mine, this is what I love to do,” she said. “And I’m lucky that I can do something that I love that also has a positive impact on other people’s lives.”
