Visit Quad Cities is pleased to announce the 2024 Patty Viverito Emerging Leader Scholarship recipients. Named in honor of Patty Viverito, former senior associate commissioner at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) and MVC football commissioner, the program recognizes female student-athletes who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership characteristics and community engagement. Applicants were tasked with submitting a 500-word essay detailing their leadership experience, volunteerism and sports participation. Western Illinois Girls Softball Takes A Split In Doubleheader

Western Illinois played two on Sunday, a doubleheader at Arkansas-Pine Bluff that saw the Leathernecks split the day, losing in the first game, but coming up victorious in the second. A massive day at the plate saw senior Gabriela Drager extend her hitting streak to seven games, as she went 5-6 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs on the day. A Monday series finale saw the Leathernecks take a loss in a game dominated by pitching. Seventh-grade Honors ELA students in Davenport Community School District had the privilege of hearing from a guest speaker, Judy Thompson, in class recently. Mrs. Thompson is a former pro tennis player from Davenport who also helped play a role in the passing of Title IX, a law allowing women equal rights in sports, education and other activities. Western Illinois University Agriculture (Ag) Office Manager and Account Technician Barbara Woolam has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Year for 2023. Woolam started at WIU in May 2000 as a Facilities Management, Building Services secretary. Over the years, she demonstrated exceptional dedication and work ethic, leading to a series of promotions.
