Rock Island High School’s Cultural Club got together to have a Thanksgiving Feast. Students brought food from their cultures to share. Some meals included were Baozi from Thailand, Pan Ducles (Mexican desserts), Arabic pickles, curry dishes, and a lot more! Mr. Mwaga also made a Ugali soup from Kenya. ALEDO, Ill. – Genesis Medical Center, Aledo, celebrated National Rural Health Day last week by receiving two prestigious national awards. The first came from the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. The organization tabbed Genesis Medical Center, Aledo as one of their 2023 Community Stars. The Davenport Central High School girls swim team competed at the state meet! The weekend started with Mary Selden and the Davenport Central staff receiving awards for the regional swimmer and Coaching staff of the year. Congratulations to the team of Hannah Cousins, Isabel Heller, Simone Green, and Gabbie Hanson for being awarded state runner-ups with an All-American consideration time in the 200-yard medley relay. This week is National Apprenticeship Week! We want to celebrate our Rock Island High School students who are enrolled in the U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program and thank our community partners who are employing them for these apprenticeships. These students attend RIHS in the morning and work in the afternoon at local businesses. Over intersession and summer break, they work full-time.
