Pokémon trainers unite! Your defending skills are in need. Whether you are a long-time Pokémon Go trainer or want to see what all the fuss is about, head to the Niabi Zoo this Saturday Oct 14 for a Pokémon Go Expedition! That’s right, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. the zoo will be stocked full of virtual Pokemon in-waiting. You will be able to discover 20 Pokestops, with lures attached to each. Kick off the fall season this weekend with DeWitt’s Great Pumpkin Festival! This Sunday, Oct 15 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Downtown DeWitt will transform into a festival filled with pumpkins, scarecrows and fun! Starting at 11 a.m. the Women of Welton will hold a baking contest featuring dishes containing apple, pumpkin or nuts. A bake sale will follow! Defense carried the days as Mid America Premier – the top-rated U10 soccer team in the region, and perhaps, now it can be said, the state of Illinois – took the gold in the Lincoln Soccer Tournament Sept. 16-17, defeating not only the top teams from downstate Illinois but the official youth team of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire. It was a strange, sloppy game at times, played on a pee wee-sized field that led to a lot of barely missed shots, but it was a win, and that was the important end result as the top U10 youth soccer team in the Midwest region, Mid America Premier Red, opened its Illowa League schedule with a 8-2 win over Q-C Legends at Rock Island’s Campbell Sports Complex on Sept. 10. The Rock Island Public Library’s Hug A Book program series will offer a special early learning art event  this Thursday for ages five and under. Hug-A-Book, Make Some Art offers a story and several related art projects designed for children ages to five.
