The Rocks wrestled at Wharton Field House last night in the Western Big Six Conference Tournament, taking 2nd as a team, finishing just behind Quincy. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – – Christopher A. Pynes, Philosophy professor at Western Illinois University, has been named interim director of Institutional Research and Planning, effective Jan. 15. Pynes has served as professor in the Philosophy department at WIU since 2014. Seventh-grade Honors ELA students in Davenport Community School District had the privilege of hearing from a guest speaker, Judy Thompson, in class recently. Mrs. Thompson is a former pro tennis player from Davenport who also helped play a role in the passing of Title IX, a law allowing women equal rights in sports, education and other activities. She spoke about her life- her successes, challenges, and her impact on women’s sports. The board recognized 65 students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA or above for 6 semesters. At the Board of Education meeting on August 10, 65 Rock Island High School seniors were honored as Charles O. Austin Jr. Scholars. The students were presented with certificates of recognition for completing six semesters of study and earning a 3.5 GPA or higher.
