Davenport Sudlow Yearbook Staff Receives Third Place At National Yearbook Contest

Congratulations to the Sudlow yearbook staff for receiving a 3rd place finish at the 2022 Lifetouch National School Studios Yearbook Showcase Contest! The publications were sorted into four divisions: high schools with more than 1,000 students enrolled, high schools with fewer than 1,000 students enrolled, middle schools/junior high schools, and elementary schools. Rock Island High School Students Sign Letters Of Intent For Education Program

Twenty-five students in Rock Island High School’s Education Internship Program signed letters of intent at a special ceremony yesterday. Education interns learn the foundations of education as well as gain hands-on experience. Interns work directly with district educators to observe and carry out a variety of classroom tasks and activities. Thomas Named Director of Western Illinois Campus Recreation

Interim Western Illinois University Campus Recreation Center Director Brian Thomas has been named the permanent director, effective May 1. Thomas has served as interim director of Campus Recreation since June 2022. He was hired as the center’s assistant director in January 2018, and was promoted to associate director in January 2021. He has also previously served as a fitness coordinator and head personal trainer at the McDonough County YMCA, and was an adjunct instructor in WIU’s Kinesiology department in 2022. MOLINE, IL – – Western Illinois University’s Environmental Science: Large River Ecosystems program is working with the city of Moline to study the concentration of phosphorus in the Rock River. “This is a proactive effort to determine how pending regulatory changes might affect the South Slope Sewage Treatment Plant,” said WIU Environmental Science Director Roger Viadero. The project will consist of student-led groups testing water for basic quality parameters, in addition to nutrients and chlorophyll, which can be an indicator of elevated phosphorus in water.
