Western Illinois University Works to Close Teacher Shortage Through NOYCE STEM Grant

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – – Western Illinois University, in partnership with Blackhawk Community College and local school districts, received a $1.4 million National Science Foundation grant to address teacher shortages in high-needs school districts. The grant will award 24 NOYCE STEM Teacher Scholarships over the next five years, and three scholars have already been selected for the Fall 2023 semester. The scholarships cover costs associated with tuition, fees and housing. Scholars who apply could receive over $30,000 in scholarships. The first day of school for the RIMSD#41 2023-2024 school year is August 3rd, 2023. Starting on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, parents can log into Skyward Family Access and use the Registration tile to complete registration. The Davenport Community School District will hold an official groundbreaking for new construction at Davenport West High School at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the area to the southwest of the West YMCA. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the West gymnasium.
