De’Viann Titus-Porter, or ‘TP’ to his many friends, is a graduating senior at St. Ambrose University and football player. TP is also a graduate of North High School! Over the past school year, TP served as a mentor at Wilson Elementary School and today the school threw an event called ‘Bee the Difference’ featuring SAU cheerleaders and football players. De Viann Titus-Porter, a St. Ambrose football player and senior who graduated from North High School, has organized an event with St. Ambrose athletics at Wilson Elementary to motivate students. De Viann has been volunteering with Wilson Elementary since February 1st and has volunteered close to 300 hours. It is not debatable, when it comes to the Olympic styles of wrestling, Illinois is the absolute best. This makes the Illinois Freestyle State Tournament among the toughest in the Nation. Today 5 Rocks competed, and while Antonio Parker, Amare Overton (top 8 finish), Steven Marquez (top 6 finish), and Andrew Marquez (top 6 finish) all had long days and battled hard, Truth Vesey was the lone medalist, taking 3rd Place and earning a spot on the IL National Team and will be competing for them at Nationals in Fargo! The Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center (GBCC) at Western Illinois University is accepting applications for its annual Black Alumni Council Scholarship. The scholarship is open to incoming first-year students and previous recipients. One of Project NOW’s newest fleet additions is literally a life saver. Project NOW’s new refrigerated box truck began hitting the streets last fall to help those facing food insecurity. The truck, which is grant funded, is being used as a mobile food pantry—providing food to areas that have been defined as “food deserts.” Those areas include the west end of Rock Island, the Floreciente neighborhood, East Moline, and Silvis.
