BREAKING NEWS: In the wake of Governor Kim Reynolds’ decision on Friday to eliminate any state requirements to wear masks and limit public gatherings to stop the deadly spread of covid-19, new numbers were released today showing Iowa as one of the least safe states in the U.S. in regard to covid-19. The website WalletHub, aggregating data from across all 50 states, showed Iowa as last in the country in vaccination rate, next-to-last in terms of death rate, and with an overall rank of the seventh worst state in the U.S. in regard to covid safety for visitors and residents. RIA Credit Union to Hold Ribbon-Cutting at New Bettendorf BettPlex Location

The R.I.A. Federal Credit Union will hold a ribbon-cutting for its BettPlex location at 3 p.m. February 11, 2021, at 4880 Forest Grove Dr., Bettendorf. This location originally opened in July 2020 and has been in operation since then. The credit union had wanted to celebrate the opening of this state-of-the-art facility last year with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, but at that time, the COVID-19 pandemic has reached a stage where such an event was not advised. Because of predicted cold temperatures, the weekly Covid vaccine clinic run by Rock Island County Health Department for Tuesday, Feb. 9, will be inside the TaxSlayer Center, 1201 River Drive, Moline. Last week, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new law mandating schools offer 100% in-person education, and on Friday morning, three Iowa Quad-Cities superintendents discussed that impact – as well as other school changes in an online forum hosted by the Quad Cities Chamber. The United Township district superintendent also participated in the webinar on Iowa and Illinois priorities in education.
