The Quad Cities Astronomical Society and the Pleasant Valley High School Astronomy Club will co-host a meteor shower viewing party at Pleasant Valley Junior High School, at 3501 Wisconsin Street in Leclaire, on Saturday, August 7.  The viewing party will begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.  Masks are optional at this outdoor event, but are encouraged in areas where social distancing cannot be maintained. Veterans who put their boots – and roots – in Scott County now may be eligible for up to $8,250 in relocation incentives after the county’s new designation as a Home Base Iowa (HBI) community. The designation involves area partners including Scott County, the City of Davenport and the Quad Cities Chamber. Much of Illinois is in the “substantial” zone. BREAKING NEWS: Covid numbers in Scott County continue to spike rapidly. Last week, the Iowa county moved into the SUBSTANTIAL level, and this week they’ve moved to the highest placement, the HIGH level. Over 14 percent of Quad-Citians could face evictions today after the expiration of the rent moratorium due to covid-19. In June, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signed an extension to the eviction moratorium further preventing the eviction of tenants who were unable to make rental payments. The moratorium that was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2021 was extended through July 31, 2021 — yesterday.
