Quad Cities Chamber Pursues Downtown Partnership in Rock Island

As it does for downtown Davenport and Bettendorf, the Quad Cities Chamber is looking to contract with the city of Rock Island to provide downtown place management services. On Monday, Jan. 25, at 6:45 p.m., the Rock Island City Council will discuss the issue at Council Chambers (3rd Floor), 1528 3rd Ave., Rock Island. AGR's Smokin' Hog Event Raises $10,000 for WIU School of Ag, Food Pantry

The annual Smokin’ Hog fundraising event, put on by Western Illinois University’s Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) fraternity, raised $10,000 for the WIU School of Agriculture and the WIU Food Pantry. This was the 28th year for the event, which had to be altered slightly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The board of directors of the Quad City Botanical Center announced the upcoming retirement of Executive Director Ami Porter effective in May. Porter has led the organization since 2010 and started at the Center in 1998. “It has been such an honor to serve the Botanical Center and this community. Quad City International Airport Sees 58% Drop in Passengers for 2020

Reflecting international devastation of the airline industry, due to Covid-19, Moline’s Quad City International Airport saw a drop of more than half the passengers from 2019 to 2020. The airport served 306,260 total passengers last year, 58 percent fewer than 2019’s 721,999, the Metropolitan Airport Authority board of commissioners learned at its Tuesday meeting.
