The Western Illinois University Department of Art and Design recently hosted its annual High School Art Exhibition and Awards, with work submitted by students from 10 regional high schools.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was held virtually and was judged by WIU Professor Emeritus Julie Mahoney. She chose 100 works for the show from more than 270 entries, submitted by more than 100 students.

The winners of the 2020 HSAEA include:

• Best in Show – $200 cash – Callie Lauderback Washington Community HS

• Blick Visionary Award – $100 Blick gift certificate – Samantha Hurd Washington Community HS

• First Place – 2D – $50 Blick gift certificate – Olivia Hucke Mercer County HS
• Second Place – 2D – $25 WIU Bookstore gift bag – Miranda Viano Cuba HS
• Third Place – 2D – $15 cash – AJ Westley Washington Community HS

• First Place – 3D – $50 Blick gift certificate – Ella Ackman Rushville Industry HS
• Second Place – 3D – $25 WIU Bookstore gift bag – Shelby Borlin Washington Community HS
• Third Place – 3D – $15 cash – Nikki Decker Brown County HS

• First Place – Photography – $50 Blick gift certificate – Darby Geisz Washington Community HS
• Second Place – Photography – $25 WIU Bookstore gift bag – Karissa Geisinger Mercer County HS
• Third Place – Photography – $15 cash – Julia Carpenter Pekin County HS
