MACOMB/Moline, IL — The Western Illinois University Counseling Center (UCC) has been re-accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS), Inc., the premier leader in setting the benchmark for the full range of professional counseling services on college and university campuses. Western is one of five universities in Illinois with an IACS accredited counseling center.

Western Illinois University Counseling Center Receives ReaccreditationAccording to UCC Director Amy Buwick, following a recent evaluation by IACS, the Center was recognized for its outstanding professional services to its clientele, which demonstrates the University Counseling Center’s continued commitment to provide a continuum of evidence-based services.

While the center is evaluated each year to maintain accreditation, a comprehensive site visit occurs every eight years. In Spring 2018, the IACS team visited WIU and re-accreditation was affirmed for 2019. Following the site review, IACS noted that the UCC provides excellent, comprehensive mental health services to the University community including individual and group counseling, consultation for faculty/staff/parents/students, psycho-educational programming, and practicum training of graduate students. The next on-site visit will take place in 2026.

The University Counseling Center was established in 1946, and was first accredited by the IACS in the 1970s and then consecutively from 1992 to the present. The center provides personal counseling services to currently enrolled WIU undergraduate and graduate students. Throughout the academic year, the UCC offers the WIU community a wide array of educational programs on such topics as depression, anxiety disorders, suicide intervention/prevention, healthy relationships, stress management and more. UCC counselors hold master’s or doctoral degrees and maintain licenses within the state of Illinois as psychologists, social workers and mental health counselors.
