RAGBRAI Riding Through IowaThe oldest, largest and longest week-long bicycle touring event in the world has finally arrived. That’s right, it’s time for RAGBRAI!

The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) is scheduled to begin Saturday July 22 and conclude on Saturday July 29.

The RAGBRAI route averages 468 miles. It begins somewhere along Iowa’s western border on the Missouri River and ends along the eastern border on the Mississippi River.  Eight Iowa communities along the RAGBRAI route serve as “host” communities for overnight stays.

RAGBRAI XLV will begin in Orange City on July 22 with the RAGBRAI Expo from 12-9 p.m. The ride will begin on Sunday July 23. Here is this year’s schedule of cities:

Sunday July 23

Orange City to Alton – 3.0 miles

Alton to Granville – 7.0 miles

Granville to Paullina – 9.6 miles

Paullina to Primghar (Meeting) – 10.0 miles

Gravel Loop to Sutherland – 19.2 miles (optional)

Primghar to Hartley – 14.0 miles

Hartley to Spencer – 19.0 miles

 

Monday July 24

Spencer to Ayrshire – 24.0 miles

Ayrshire to Curlew – 10.2 miles

Curlew to Mallard – 5.6 miles

Mallard to West Bend (Meeting) – 13.4 miles

Karras Loop to Plover – 29.6 miles (optional)

West Bend to Whittemore – 8.3 miles

Whittemore to Algona – 10.2 miles

 

Tuesday July 25

Algona to Wesley – 13.9 miles

Wesley to Britt – 9.5 miles

Britt to Garner (Meeting) – 15.0 miles

Garner to Ventura – 7.4 miles

Ventura to Clear Lake – 5.6 miles

 

Wednesday July 26

Clear Lake to Thornton – 13.1 miles

Thornton to Swaledale – 5.6 miles

Swaledale to Rockwell (Meeting) – 6.0 miles

Rockwell to Cartersville – 6.7 miles

Cartersville to Rockford – 10.7 miles

Rockford to Charles City – 15.4 miles

 

Thursday July 27

Charles City to Ionia – 13.0 miles

Ionia to New Hampton (Meeting) – 8.5 miles

New Hampton to Lawler – 8.3 miles

Lawler to Protivin – 12.7 miles

Protivin to Cresco – 12.1 miles

 

Friday July 28

Cresco to Decorah (Meeting) – 19.5 miles

Decorah to Ossian – 14. 7 miles

Ossian to Castelia – 5.1 miles

Castalia to Postville – 6.1 miles

Postville to Waukon – 14.7 miles

 

Saturday July 29

Waukon to Waterville – 15.0 miles

Waterville to Yellow River State Forest – 8.8 miles

Yellow River State Forest to Harpers Ferry – 7.4 miles

Harpers Ferry to Lansing – 13.6 miles
