The revered and lauded local golf tournament drawing fans and sportsmen from around the world, the John Deere Classic, runs at Moline’s Deere Run course through Sunday.

Competitors began teeing off today, with a wide-range of events and promotions surrounding the event. Favorites for the trophy this year include last year’s winner, Bryson DeChambeau, as well as perennial favorite and past champion Steve Stricker.

The 156-player field battles it out for a $5.8 million purse, with the winner getting $1.044 million. Various charities are also winners as, last year, 521 participating charities received $12.27 million.  This year, the tournament is expected to break the $100 million mark in charitable contributions.
