MACOMB, IL – The Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) at Western Illinois University will host and facilitate an eight-week, online government contracting series for business owners.

“GovCon 2020” will run weekly from Thurday, Oct. 29-Tuesday, Nov. 17. The deadline to apply for the free program is Monday, Sept. 7. Eligibility requirements include membership in the SBDC/PTAC network, two or more years in business and a verifiable business income.

The cohort program promotes economic development by providing education and resources helping businesses work with federal, state and local agencies, along with military bases. The virtual ceremony of completion will have invited guests, such as community, political, military and academic leaders, along with prime agencies. During the ceremony, participants will showcase their business and capabilities.

Processes outlined during the cohort include:

• How to do business with the federal government
• How to do business with the state government
• Understanding and obtaining diverse certifications
• Marketing to the government
• Building a capability statement
• Proposal types and writing tips
• Technical assistance

“The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois is honored to partner with the Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) program in the upcoming GOVCON Cohort educational eight-week session,” said Ronda Sauget, executive director and CEO of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois. “This effort will help minorities, women, veteran-owned businesses and others on their journey to become qualified state and federal contractors. The GOVCON cohort will provide much needed guidance and educational advantages to the participants in being well informed about the contracting activities, engaged in the state and federal contracting process, and empowered to win the contract work and successfully complete the project.”

The Illinois PTAC at WIU is provided through a cooperative agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and WIU.
