Welcome to the QuadCities.com Virtual Art Gallery!

In this feature, we’re spotlighting area artists and their work. Every Tuesday we’ll feature a new local artist.

It’s free and our way of showcasing awesome area artists and allowing them to include a link to their own online gallery or patreon!

If you’d like to be included in the gallery, just send your bio, a headshot pic of yourself and up to a half-dozen .jpgs of your art to Sean@QuadCities.com. We look forward to featuring you and your artworks in our gallery!

Our Latest Artist In The Virtual Art Gallery: Jackie Krebs! As for this week’s artist, you’ve gotta love a creator whose muses have included Beetlejuice and Vincent Price. That’s Davenport’s Jackie Krebs.

We recently chatted with her about her work and inspiration. For your convenience, since you’re obviously not psychic (or are you?) the conversation is below…

When did you first get into art and what got you into it?

I have been creating since I can remember. My parents always encouraged creativity-I have a vivid imagination, so I always had art supplies and paints available for whatever weird little creation popped into my head. Art, including music, dance, theater and visual art, has always been a vital part of my life. The magic of taking an idea and making it a reality is one of the biggest reasons I am a creator.

How would you describe your artworks to people who haven’t seen them?

My art includes bold and vivid color, used in unusual ways to create shadow and texture. I also thrive on unusual subject matter. I like to think outside of the box, thus invoking feeling and emotion that the viewer wouldn’t necessarily expect.

Our Latest Artist In The Virtual Art Gallery: Jackie Krebs! What’s your philosophy in regard to art?

My philosophy  in regard to art is to create from the heart, no matter how others may receive the end result. Everything I create, I do with passion. There’s no point otherwise.

Who are your favorite artists?

Gustav Klimt has been a great inspiration. I was fortunate enough to be able to study in Vienna, Austria for a semester while in college. I was able to see many works by Klimt, as well as many other artists that inspire me, such as Van Gogh, Munch, and Cezanne. During this semester, I was exposed to so much culture and art, and that has influenced how I work today.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to continue creating and sharing my art! It is a goal of mine to eventually teach others how to paint. I love seeing people discover that they are an artist, even if they never thought it possible!

Anything else you’d like to add?

If you are a creator, don’t be afraid to share your creations with the world. Not everyone will like what you do, and that is okay. As long as you try and are proud of your creations, that’s all that matters.
